Hotels

In Japan there are two main categories of hotels: those that aspire to attract foreign visitors and those that don't.
The latter are much cheaper, but it is not advised to stay in those unless you feel comfortable with the Japanese language and customs (such as a Japanese breakfast).
If you are the adventurous type and you want to extent you stay for sightseeing purposes, you could give them a try.

Hotels

Je kan in Japan twee klassen hotels onderscheiden: deze die zich (ook) richten op buitenlanders en deze die dat niet doen.
De hotels in de laatste categorie zijn beduidend goedkoper, maar het is niet aangeraden er gebruik van te maken tenzij je geen problemen hebt om in het Japans te communiceren en je bereid bent de Japanse smaak en gewoontes te volgen (zoals een Japans ontbijt).
Als je wat avontuurlijk aangelegd bent en als je je bezoek wilt verlengen om wat sightseeing te doen, zou je kunnen overwegen om deze hotels te proberen.

Many of these hotels can be reached directly from Narita airport by Limousine Bus (not all services operate at all times of the day).
An alternative is to use the Limousine Bus till Tokyo City Air Terminal (TCAT) or the JR Narita Express (NEX) till Tokyo, Shinagawa or Shinjuku. From there on, you can walk or use a taxi.

Vele van deze hotels zijn vanuit de vlieghaven van Narita bereikbaar met de Limousine Bus (niet alle bestemmingen worden tijdens de ganse dag aangeboden).
Als aternatief kan je de Limousine Bus nemen tot Tokyo City Air Terminal (TCAT) of de JR Narita Express (NEX) tot Tokio, Shinagawa of Shinjuku. Vanaf daar wandel je of neem je een taxi naar je hotel.

Osaka

Appropriate Middle Class hotels in Osaka are
  • Laforet Shin-Osaka
    This hotel is located very conveniently at 1 min walk from Shinosaka station (3rd floor West exit). This is the station where all the shinkansen (connections to Tokyo, Nagoya, Kobe, Hiroshima) stop, where the JR Limited Express train "Haruka" from/to Kansai International Airport stops, where the Midosuji-line (one of the main metro lines in Osaka) stops.
    Although the website is only in Japanese, English is no problem at all at this hotel.
  • Swissotel Nankai Osaka
    This hotel is located very conveniently in Namba, one of the centers of Osaka. The entrance of the hotel is just besides the ticket gate of Osaka Nankai line, one of the train lines (not JR ! ) connecting Kansai International Airport to Osaka downtown.
    Besides being the endpoint of the Nankai Airport line, Namba also has a busy metro station.
    When taking the train from Kansai Airport, make sure you get to station of the Nankai line and not to the JR station. Reservation tickets for the Nankai-Limited Express Rapit Beta  have to be bought on the platform, just before boarding the express train. For normal Nanka line trains, seat reservations are not required.
  • Hotel Granvia Osaka - Osaka Station (Umeda)
    Note that Osaka station is NOT the station where the shinkansen stops.
    This hotel started feeling a little bit shabby.
  • Hyatt Regency Osaka (Nakafuto station)
    Nakafuto station is close to the Intex tradeshow area.
    The location of this hotel is useful if access to Intex is relevant. The location is not good if access to downtown is the most relevant.

  • Ramada Osaka (formerly Toyo Hotel) - Nakatsu

Osaka

  • Laforet Shin-Osaka
    Dit hotel is heel handig gelegen, op 1 min wandelen van het station Shinosaka (3de verdieping West uitgang). Dit is het station waar al de shinkansen (verbindingen naar Tokio, Nagoya, Kobe, Hiroshima) stoppen, waar de JR Limited Express trein "Haruka" van/naar Kansai International Airport stopt, waar de Midosuji-line (een van de belangrijke metrolijnen van Osaka) stopt.
    Alhoewel de website enkel in het Japans is, is het geen probleem om in het hotel Engels te gebruiken.
  • Swissotel Nankai Osaka
    Dit hotel is handig gelegen in Namba, een van de centrale punten in Osaka. De ingang vanhet hotel is juist naast de perronuitgang van de Nankai-lijn, een van de spoorlijnen (niet JR ! ) die Kansai International Airport verbindt met Osaka centrum.
    Benevens het eindstation van de Nankai Airport lijn, is Namba ok een druk metro knooppunt.
    Wees voorzichtig in Kanasi Airport bij het nemen van de trein. Het station van de Nankai lijn is niet hetzlefde als het station van de JR lijn. Reservatie tickets voor de Nankai-Limited Express Rapit Beta  moeten op het perron, juist voor het instappen, gekocht worden. Voor gewone Nankai lijn treinen is er geen reservatie vereist.
  • Hotel Granvia Osaka - Osaka Station (Umeda)
    Noteer dat Osaka station NIET het station is waar de shinkansen stopt.
    Het hotel doedt een beetje verouderd aan.
  • Hyatt Regency Osaka (Nakafuto station)
    Nakafuto station is dichtbij Intex.
    Indien toegang tot de handlesbeurszone Intex belangrijk is, is dit hotel goed gelegen, in het andere geval is dit hotel niet ideaal.
    Gelieve de hotel website te raadplegen voor toegang vanaf de luchthaven.
  • Ramada Osaka (voorheen Toyo Hotel) - Nakatsu

Appropriate Lower Class hotels in Osaka are

  • 2nd Inn Umeda
    This is a very cheap hotel, with tiny rooms, but it is modern, very clean and the staff is friendly although their knowledge of English is rather limited.
    The hotel is located just besides the Ritz-Carlton in Umeda, where also JR Osaka Station is located. It requires a 10 min walk from metro station Umeda (Midosuji line), a 7 min walk from JR Osaka and a 5 min walk from metro station Nishi Umeda (Yotsubashi line). (From Umeda and Osaka-stations it can also be accessed underground, but indications are completely lacking.)
    Access from the airport is via JR Osaka station and thus the "Haruka" is advised with transfer at Tennoji or Nishikujo. The JR Kanku Rapid is slower, but requires no transfers.

Geschikte lagere klasse hotels in Osaka zijn

  • 2nd Inn Umeda
    Dit is een zeer goedkoop hotel met erg kleine kamers, maar het is modern en proper. Het personeel is erg vriendelijk, maar hun kennis van het Engels is beperkt.
    Het hotel is gelegen juist naast de Ritz-Carlton in Umeda, waar ook JR Osaka Station is. Het ligt op 10 min wandelen van metro station Umeda (Midosuji line), 7 min wandelen van JR Osaka en 5 min wandelen van metro station Nishi Umeda (Yotsubashi line). (Vanuit de stations Umeda en Osaka kan het ook ondergronds bereikt worden, maar er zijn totaal geen wegaanduidingen.)
    Toegang van de luchthaven is via JR Osaka station en dus is de "Haruka" met overstap in Tennoji of Nishikujo aan te raden. Trager, maar zonder overstappen is de JR Kanku Rapid.
